My Dog Understands Conversational Language
by Thrasymachus,Apr/27/2020
For him to understand what people are saying, he only needs to be paying attention. You don't have to talk to him like a dog. When I'm on the phone, he listens in and gets excited if he hears me talking about something fun we might do. It got to where I started spelling things rather than say the words, and then he started getting excited if he hears me spelling words, so that stopped working.
He is mix of Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Blue Healer and American Bulldog (called a McNabb Cattledog), and my god he came out smart and athletic. I am not sure how many dogs can understand the amount of language that Chonq does. My neighbor said "he's more of a people than a dog", but maybe that's selling short his species, and if you talk with your dog conversationally from the time they're 5 weeks old, maybe most dogs can understand nearly everything we say.
