What I consider important in any relationship:
1) Equality (however, I still like to open the car door for a lady)
2) Understanding another person
3) Good communication
4) Being a good listener
5) Respect for the other person
6) Being non judgmental.
7) Having a good sense of humor, especially helpful when in a problem situation.
8) Having common courtesy
9) Good personal hygiene.
10) Someone who is accepting of others, no matter what their race, religion, or sexual orientation is
I enjoy getting involved with learning new things. I work out with weights, run, and am into nutrition. I like reading non fiction (like Malcolm Gladwell, or Dale Carnegie). I also like investigating mysteries of all kinds. I enjoy a good detective (Film Noir) movie, and some Sci-Fi. I recently retired early from a high stress job that paid well, and am financially secure, living off of my investments, including farm land rental, and Ebay sales. I like to be a Jack of all trades, and am mechanically inclined, and would rather do, fix, or repair something myself if I can and work on my own house and cars. I am a member of the Cedar Astronomy Association. I like space music like Hans Zimmer, Constance Demby, Kitaro; and progressive rock like the Moody Blues, Alan Parsons Project, and Pink Floyd, and a lot of 80’s rock. For those knowledgeable on the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory, I am an INTJ. I am introspective, unconventional, creative, caring, logical, open minded, a planner, have a good sense of humor, and have a enough practical intelligence and experience to realize that when in a relationship, if you are not friends also, the relationship isn't going to work. I am a Free Thinker (see "Urban Dictionary") by the original definition of the word (not the hijacked one).
I go to the Barn-Contra and English Country dances that are held at the Senior Center (for all ages) in Iowa City, a great place to meet for the first time.
On rare occasions, when the mood hits, I have written poetry (reading too much Dr Seuss LOL) and philosophical expressions (Every day I become a little wiser, and as I do, I come to realize that I wasn’t as wise the day before as I thought I was.
A friend once wrote to me "to the best friend a person could have". I never forgot what she wrote, and always strive to be that kind of a person.
